Rochester Death Records (1871-1940) - Names appearing in the original books of Rochester death records were transcribed for this index. These ledger books contain only deaths occurring within the city limits of Rochester from 1871-1940. Many of the early records are faded and in almost illegible handwriting. Every attempt was made to confirm the correct spelling using additional references..

Rochester Newspaper Subject Index (1859-1912) - This index was transcribed from original handwritten index cards. These index cards were part of a WPA project to index the early Rochester newspapers (1859-1912). This index was never completed and the cards remained unsorted, with the text on both sides with up to 15-20 unrelated references on each card. In some instances, incomplete information is given. References for this index were extracted from the original cards and not the actual newspapers, therefore the index was not proofed against the individual newspaper articles. If you have any corrections please contact the Olmsted County Historical Society.
