SELCO's name says it all --- Southeastern Libraries Cooperating.
SELCO is a federation of 35 public libraries and 11 counties in southeastern Minnesota.
Participating agencies willingly work together to enhance library services so that each
member is connected to other area libraries.

Through sharing arrangements established and maintained by SELCO, library customers
in the region have access to a much broader selection of books, videos, magazines,
CDs, DVDs, electronic resources and other services. Many of SELCO's services are behind
the scenes and designed to support local libraries as they serve residents promoting
literacy, providing information access and sharing the joys of reading.
SELCO's public libraries are an eclectic mix of small and large communities
and range in size from Hokah, population 614 located in rural eastern
Houston County to Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic and located on a major north-south
crescent linking the region with Minnesota's metropolitan center.
This unique blend of members presents both challenges and surprises when striving
to meet the diverse needs of a rural and urban federation.
SELCO's services are varied and determined by member input.
These include: surface delivery among libraries; operation of an integrated
library system; electronic resources; continuing education opportunities and
programming support. In addition to the support provided to libraries, SELCO
is also a direct provider of public library service and operates a bookmobile
in eight counties, ensuring that even the smallest communities are connected
to the vast array of library and information resources.

 |
SELCO was established in 1971 as a not-for-profit corporation.
SELCO is one of twelve public library regions created by the Minnesota State
Board of Education to assist public libraries in providing effective information services.
SELCO actively cooperates with other regional libraries and state agencies.
Because SELCO is a regional library system, it is eligible for federal and state funding.
The State Library Agency is responsible for the administration of these funds.
